«ŠŠ» history
In mid 2001 a bunch of Delta Force: Land Warrior(DFLW)-players left the swedish squad ~ONI~ due to some internal squad stuff and formed a new squad, Scandinavian Scarecrows «ŠŠ». This was the birth of a squad that would make an impact on the DF-gaming community and beating all the best squads in DFLW over a period of 7 years but little were they thinking about that then.

«ŠŠ» started out on the scandinavian scene and recruiting primarily Swedes. Playing together every day, having fun and enjoying doing matches every day a week built a strong teamspirit and lifted teamwork to new heights. Together with a good tactic «ŠŠ» started to dominate the tournies and leagues they played in, beating their archenemy ~ONI~ in Swedish Civil War taking their first trophy. Next year «ŠŠ» moved on to the euro scene and met tough resistance. But continuing in the tradition of playing together a lot and having fun slowly brought success even on the euroscene while dominating the Swedes scene with only loosing one map in the second season of Swedish Civil War. Mainly concentrating on TKOH but playing all other gametypes made «ŠŠ» a name on the euroscene as well, taking several trophys at Nova-Arena in the euro charts as well as the world wide tournies at SquadGames. Already after the first year the members of the squad met real life and started the tradition of the «ŠŠ» summer parties(see below).

In March 2003 «ŠŠ» decided to close down since a lot of members left for newer games or quit for different reasons. Some didnt give up tough and with a strong effort from Cigarette and Pro-Milla, a few months later, in May, after some recruiting «ŠŠ» re-emerged. Roster grew, some solo players joined and a few names from RYP-squad came over and joined the old members still active. The return showed that «ŠŠ» still was a strong squad in the world wide DFLW community much thanks to the tactic tradition, the individual skill of members and the comradeship within the squad. «ŠŠ» now started a quick climb upwards and became one of the top squads within DFLW with TKOH still as their primary gametype but doing well in all gametypes played. During the following years the championship list started to grow and that made «ŠŠ» the archenemy of certain darker elements in the community, primarily the US part of it. Since «ŠŠ» foremost wanted to have fun, these elements forming "one-months-squads" with not clean players in them were avoided, except for in tourneys where they got beaten anyway, and most of the energy was directed towards the more clean euro-community. So many matches of TKOH/FB/CTF were played as friendlies but also competitive in tournies and leagues versus euro teams like ~t§~, *DEA, [ê] and especially ~FiK~. This gave the members many memorable moments, who can forget the drunk night chats playing, "ciggish" or running wrong direction due to being drunk. The squad atmosphere was unique and formed a tight bond between the members along with the tradtions of «ŠŠ» . All this proved by old members leaving and new ones joining with the «ŠŠ» spirit intact all the time, making old members coming back to say hi or even play a match or two with the squad.

With new games coming out the DFLW community became smaller and tighter and with members leaving, the squad went from strictly scandinavian to be open for anyone. «ŠŠ» started to recruit non-scandinavian member, primarly euros but also some americans, but all the time making sure that the new recruits was of «ŠŠ» caliber both skill- and attitudewise. The newer games was also of interest within the squad and «ŠŠ» expanded to them in the end of 2003 but all the time keeping DFLW as their main game. This didnt prove to be entirely succesful since main energy of the squad went to DFLW and no one wanted take charge of the new game sections due to lack of time, will and energy for it. This made the Blackhawk Down, BHD, section vanish already after a year with the more active members of that game leaving to join other squads. After the release of Joint Operations: Typhoon Rising, JO:TR, «ŠŠ» also made an effort to start playing it seriously early 2005 but it went the same way as the BHD-section for exactly the same reasons. By this time the DFLW-community had dwindled into nothing and tournies had alltogether died out, making it really hard to even get a friendly scrimmage going. It was time for a new game and with no interest in the old DF-series games still alive the release of Delta Force Extreme, DFX, came right in time for «ŠŠ» .

DFX rekindled the squad and after a little slow start in the game «ŠŠ» seriously started to put time and effort into it mid/late 2005. Some of the old DFLW-community players also joined up and «ŠŠ» got a strong team going. Quickly «ŠŠ» became a top eurosquad matched by only a few squads in Europe here and the top squads in US and the championship list started to grow again. During this time «ŠŠ» also shared voice communications with another top squad in Europe, iq, and strong bonds were forged with both squads competing with each other. The DFX era lasted until the end of 2007 and by then that community had died due to lack of anticheat and its was impossible to even get a simple scrimmage. The final record came down to 55 wins and 17 losses with 6 championships won, a not to shabby record indeed. In the mean time the DFLW-section slowly continued playing but in few numbers and scrims were hard to come by. With DFX ending, «ŠŠ» searched for a new challenge and turned to a new game, the call of duty-series.

In early 2008 «ŠŠ» started to play competitive in leagues for Call of Duty 4, COD4, and had to learn a new style of playing. Making the switch from the open terrains of DF-series with much flanking and long range precision gunning to the enclosed small quarter camping with tactical nades and spray and pray shooting in the COD-games took some time. Luckily some members had experience from COD2 so the squad slowly started to adapt to the new gamestyle. Due to lack of time and energy, «ŠŠ» turned away from competitive play and started to play for fun but all the time recruiting and playing many friendlies. Enjoying good company and fun play in matches was the primary focus. At the same time the section of DFLW where the squad started decided to shut down since the game by now was completely dead. This ended another era in the squad and the squad record is a really nice one that will be hard to match, 301 wins with 50 losses and 27 championship titles. «ŠŠ» closed the section with sorrow but one has to face reality sooner or later. In the mean time the COD4-section grew more and more active in the game with new players joining and some old going inactive due to not liking the COD-gaming style. In late 2008 «ŠŠ» was as active as can be, fielding two teams at the same time into combat every evening and doing several matches per day.

What the future of «ŠŠ» holds we dont know. New games are coming out but most likely «ŠŠ» will stick to the DF- and COD-series in the future.

«ŠŠ» traditions

«ŠŠ» tags:
Over the years and different games the squad tags and battle tags has changed. From the start the squad tag was «ŠŠ» but with hexed characters not allowed it changed to /.SS/.SS. over time. Same has happened with the battletags originally needed as short names to not block the view of players in the game. The first tags looked like this ‹W› and over time the use of battletags has been kept but changed depending on what is allowed in the different games. Following tags has been used as well , W.SS.

«ŠŠ» warm up song:
In DFLW there was a pre-set start up time so that people with slow internet connections could join and the only thing you could do then was to wait while a clock counted down. Out of boredome a SS tradition was invented and we started to play warm up songs to get ready for the upcoming battle. This was much appreciated by the members altough the new members experiencing this for the first time always thought "wtf?". The two most popular warm up songs were "Britt-Erik - Bamsesaga" and the old "Kalinka" usually performed by the Red Army Choir.

«ŠŠ» Summer party:
Every year the squad tries to get together real life for a weekend of fun. Since most of the members are from Sweden thats where the party has been held, both in the north and south part of Sweden. This has not stopped non-swedish members from coming luckily and throughout the years many funny moments turning into fond memories has happened at them. Of course some strong bonds of friendship has been forged during these parties as well leading to many members keeping in touch in real life.
